E-CONTRAIL shortlisted for the Digital European Sky Awards 2026
The E-CONTRAIL project has been shortlisted as one of the three finalists in the Exploratory Research category of the Digital European Sky Awards 2026.

The Awards recognise outstanding achievements in research and innovation and their contribution to delivering the Digital European Sky. This year, nine projects have been selected as finalists, with three projects shortlisted in each of the three categories: Exploratory Research, Industrial Research and Demonstrators.
E-CONTRAIL is shortlisted for the Exploratory Research category alongside two other innovative research projects, ASTRA and ORCI. The recognition highlights the E-CONTRAIL's research work, which combining AI, satellite and weather data has been able to predict climate-warming contrails and identify where targeted flight adjustments can have the greatest impact.
Being selected among these innovative research projects is a significant achievement for the E-CONTRAIL project and its members, and provides further motivation for its successor and on-going project, E-CONTRAIL 2, to continue exploring innovative approaches towards a more sustainable and digitally enabled European aviation system.
The winners of the Digital European Sky Awards 2026 will be announced live at the SESAR JU Annual Conference in Brussels on 12 October 2026. We look forward to the announcement and will keep you updated!
