On 8 July, Manuel Soler, coordinator of the E-CONTRAIL 2 project, presented the project's latest work at the AVENIR Working Group, an initiative established under the EASA–EUROCONTROL Joint Work Programme to advance environmental transparency in air traffic management (ATM) and air navigation services (ANS).
The presentation focused on Pillar 3, which addresses the non-CO₂ impacts of aviation, with particular emphasis on contrail mitigation. This pillar explores how ANSPs can contribute to reducing aviation's climate impact beyond CO₂ emissions by developing methodologies, operational capabilities and decision-support approaches for contrail avoidance.

During the meeting, E-CONTRAIL 2 shared its ongoing research and developments on operational contrail mitigation, highlighting how SESAR JU innovation can support more climate-efficient ATM operations. The exchange reinforced the importance of collaboration between research projects, regulators and operational stakeholders to accelerate the uptake of scientifically robust and operationally feasible solutions.
