1st E-CONTRAIL General Assembly Meeting

On January 24, 2024, the E-CONTRAIL consortium gathered at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, in Stockholm for the first General Assembly Meeting of the project. The day's agenda covered project updates, technical work package statuses, and future plans:




10:00 - Opening: Welcome and Agenda Overview (UC3M)

UC3M, represented by Gracia Pérez and Manuel Soler, set the stage for the day, providing a warm welcome and outlining the agenda.


10:05 - Project Status Update (UC3M)

Gracia Pérez delivered a concise overview of the project's current status, highlighting achievements, challenges, and the path forward.


10:25 - Review of Actions (UC3M)

She continued with a review of actions taken so far ensured that the consortium stayed on track and addressed outstanding issues promptly.


10:45 - Coffee Break


11:00 - Technical Work Packages Updates (WP Leaders)

Work package leaders presented updates on remote sensing, radiative forcing, deep-learning methods, and climate impact assessment.


  • 11:00 - WP1 "Remote-sensing of contrails and aviation-induced cloudiness" by UC3M - Irene Ortiz, Amin Jafarimoghaddam and Javier García-Heras shared advancements in remote sensing, followed by a Q&A session.

  • 11:30 - WP2 "Remote sensing of radiative forcing from cirrus and contrails" by RMI - Ermioni Dimitropoulou and Pierre de Buyl discussed progress in the RMI research and addressed queries during the Q&A.

12:40 - Lunch Break


14:00 - WP3 "Deep-learning methods" (KTH)

Parthiban Loganathan discussed deep-learning methods and engaged in a dynamic Q&A with the team.


14:50 - WP4 "Climate impact assessment and visualization tool dashboard" (BIRA)

Hugues Brenot and Jeroen van Gent shared insights into the climate impact assessment and visualization tool dashboard, sparking discussions about it.


Klaus Sievers also shared some of the pilot's views on reducing the impact of contrails as part of his collaboration with pilots associations such as the European Cockpit Association and IFALPA.


15:40 - WP6 "Communication, Dissemination, Exploitation" (UC3M)

Virginia Villaplana outlined progress in communication and dissemination activities and together with Manuel Soler, introduced the next exploitation plans.


16:10 - Actions and Next Meetings (UC3M)

Gracia Pérez concluded the meeting by outlining actionable items and announcing details regarding upcoming meetings.
